Privacy Policy
Effective September 1, 2026 · Honey Badger Labs LLC · Applies to Kiro for iPhone and Kiro for Android
The short version: Kiro has no user accounts, no servers, and no analytics. Your trips, routes, and locations are recorded and stored only on your phone. We cannot see your data, and we never sell or share it — because we never receive it. This is true of both the iPhone and the Android app.
Information we collect
None. Honey Badger Labs LLC does not collect, receive, transmit, or store any personal information from Kiro. There is no sign-up, no login, and no account. Kiro operates no backend service.
Information Kiro stores on your device
To do its job, the app records the following locally on your phone, in the app's private storage:
- Trip records — start and end time, distance, category (business, personal, medical, charity), and any purpose note you type.
- Location data — GPS coordinates recorded during an active drive, used to measure distance and draw your route.
- Motion and activity — used only to tell driving apart from walking so tracking can start and stop itself and save battery. It is evaluated on device and not retained. On iPhone this is Core Motion; on Android it is the Activity Recognition API.
- Your settings — mileage rates, work hours, and destinations you have classified before, which power on-device category suggestions.
This data stays on the device. Deleting the app deletes all of it. Individual trips can be deleted in the app at any time.
Background location
Kiro asks for permission to use your location in the background — “Always” on iPhone, “Allow all the time” on Android. This is what makes automatic logging possible: a drive has to be detected and recorded without you opening the app, because nobody can safely start a recording while driving. Location is used only while a drive is in progress. On Android the recording runs in a foreground service with an ongoing notification, so you can always see when it is active. The rest of the time GPS is off and the app waits on low-power movement signals.
You can decline background access and still use Kiro — drives then have to be started and stopped by hand.
Platform services the app relies on
Kiro sends nothing to Honey Badger Labs LLC. Two features do rely on services built into your phone's operating system, and those requests are governed by the platform vendor's privacy policy rather than ours:
- Maps — when you view a route, the map imagery for that area is loaded by Apple Maps on iPhone, or the Google Maps SDK on Android.
- Reverse geocoding — to label a trip with a street address instead of raw coordinates, the device asks Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android) to convert coordinates into an address.
These requests are made by your device, not by us, and Honey Badger Labs LLC receives no copy of them. We want to be plain about what this means: to draw a map or name a street, some coordinates do leave your phone — they go to Apple or Google, never to us. Everything Kiro itself keeps stays on the device.
Sharing and exports
Kiro can generate CSV and PDF mileage reports. These are created on your device and go nowhere until you explicitly share them — for example emailing a report to your accountant. You choose the recipient; the app never transmits a report on its own. The same applies to the shareable summary card: it is created on device and shared only when you tap share and pick a destination.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
There are none. Kiro contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no third-party trackers, and no crash reporting service. The app does not use the Advertising Identifier and does not track you across apps or websites.
Purchases
Kiro Pro is an optional paid subscription. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play. We never see or handle your payment details. The stores provide us only anonymous, aggregate sales reporting.
Children
Kiro is a business-expense tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children — or, as described above, from anyone.
Your rights, and deleting your data
Because your data never leaves your device, you already hold it exclusively. You can view, edit, export, or delete any of it from within the app, and remove all of it by uninstalling the app.
There is no account to close and no server-side copy to erase, so there is no deletion request to send us — we hold nothing about you. If you would like that confirmed in writing for your records, email chief@hbadgerlabs.com and we will say so.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
