Common questions
Drives aren't detected automatically
Automatic detection needs Always location access. Open iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Milehq and choose Always, with Precise Location on. Also enable Motion & Fitness, which is how Milehq tells driving apart from walking. Then confirm "Automatic drive detection" is on in the app's Settings tab. Detection starts a few minutes into a drive by design — it waits until it is confident you are actually driving rather than walking, so short trips under about a quarter mile may not register.
Does it drain my battery?
GPS runs only during an actual drive. The rest of the time Milehq uses the iPhone's low-power significant-location and visit monitoring, which costs very little. When you park, Milehq waits five minutes, finalizes the trip, and powers GPS back down.
A trip's distance looks wrong
Open the trip and edit the mileage. Edited trips are flagged with an asterisk on exports and hand-entered trips
with [M], so your log stays honest if it is ever examined. Tunnels, parking garages, and long stretches
without signal can shorten a recorded route; the edit exists for exactly that.
How do I get my data out?
Reports tab → choose a period → Export CSV or Export PDF. Both are free and unlimited. The PDF includes every IRS-required field, per-category totals, audit flags, and a SHA-256 integrity digest. You can share either one straight to your accountant.
What mileage rate does it use?
The 2026 IRS standard rates by default: 72.5¢ per business mile, 21¢ medical, 14¢ charity. You can change any of them in the Settings tab if you need different figures.
Can I use it with CarPlay?
Yes. Plug in your iPhone and Milehq appears on the car screen, where you can start and end drives, see the day's totals, and classify recent trips. Siri also works hands-free: "Start a drive in Milehq."
Where is my data stored? Can I sync it?
Everything is stored only on your iPhone — there is no account and no cloud copy, which is why nobody but you can read it. That also means it does not sync between devices today, and deleting the app deletes your trips. Export a CSV or PDF before deleting or switching phones if you want to keep your records.
Deleting your data
Swipe to delete individual trips in the Drives tab, or delete the app to remove everything at once. Nothing is retained anywhere else, so no further request is needed.
